[vlc] http question

I have some question about vlan. It uses http as an option, right?
When it specifies http, how is the media streamed on the network? Is
rtp not used then? If it's also http being used for streaming, will the
media packets ride on tcp? I was thinking http being used for setup and
control and then rtp for transmission.
Thanks.

Mildred
