[vlc] No video on Dshow

Running vlc.exe -vvv dshow://vdev="Genius VideoCAM":adev="ESS Maestro" 
--volume 3
I get device recognition on both audio and video, but an input error 
with "can't open video"
The device is a USB video cam, computer is laptop with Win2K
Is there some issue with it trying to use wxWindows instead of GTK or 
Windows output,
or some completely different explanation?
