[vlc] vlc:quit hangs vlc-0.6.0 under Windows XP

I am using vlc-0.6.0-win32 under Windows XP and I am trying to use vlc:quit on the command line from a batch file to quit vlc after a movie is completed. However when the movie completes vlc just hangs and a reboot is required, or a remote kill if I am lucky.

My command line is as follows:
vlc movie.mpg vlc:quit

I notice that while the movie is playing, if I examine the playlist I see an entry for vlc:quit.

Any idea's why this is happening? Am I using vlc:quit properly?
