Thanks for that.  In the end I installed the rest of Debian's gcc-3.0
packages for Woody (I had gcc-3.0 and cpp-3.0, but not g++-3.0) and used
that instead, and the software compiled without complaint.  Now to figure
out if it actually works with all of the things I've got installed.
