[vlc] dvd-->vcd

I place a dvd in the drive and it mounts. I startup vlc with kde. I then open 
a dvd at /dev/dvd and get:

[00000128] main input: playlist item `dvd:/dev/dvd@'
[00000128] vcd input error: no movie tracks found
[00000128] main input error: no suitable access module for `/://dvd:/dev/dvd@'

What is the problem? Thanks
