Dear friends,

VLC 0.6.1-test1 has been made available.
Again, loads of bug fixes, but also some very interesting new things.
Most prominently the great new subtitle rendering code created by
Sigmund Augdal. Vorbis support in Ogg streaming and support for vorbis
transcoding, mp3 audio transcoding support, fixes to the alsa sound
module, fixes for WinNT and Win98 audio and an improved http interface
which will allow you to create your own custom html pages.

FONT/SUBS rendering:
You can now use almost any font (i.e. ttf) and render this in any size
you want. Default fonts have been set on at least win32 and macosx for
your convenience. However if you use something like japanese you might
need to change to a compatible font.
Options for size and font can be found in the preferences, under
modules/plugins -> text renderer -> freetype.
If your subtitle files use an encoding different then Latin1 (western
european) you'd possibly have to change to an different encoding.
Choose preferences -> modules/plugins -> decoder -> spudec The font
field you will find here is no longer relevant.
A list of possibilities can be found here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/

BUGS with this.
- the line spacing is somewhat unusual.
- if a line doesn't fit it the window, it can overlap itself.

Please test these new features and report any problems.
We are especially interested in subtitle-files in a foreign encoding.

You can find the test tarball here:
http://www.videolan.org/pub/testing/vlc-0.6.1-test1/
and the contrib packages here:
http://www.videolan.org/pub/testing/contrib/

You will also find binary packages for Win32 and Mac OS X. BeOS should
follow as well.

For the VLC team,
DJ
