[vlc] VLC doesnt read .rm file

hi all,

i am not sure whether what i have done is
enough...kindly guide..

I tried installing vlc using all the required rpms.
But, it gave me a dependency error saying
libaa.so.1 was not present. 

I then tried installing it with the
tarball(vlc-0.5.3.tar.bz2). I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ALL
THE SOURCE PACKAGES AVAILABLE ON 
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-redhat.html

Now the vlc program is running but when i try to play
an mpeg file, the error i get is 

[00000142] main interface error: option frequency does
not exist
[00000142] main interface error: option symbol-rate
does not exist
[00000144] main input: playlist item
`file:///usr/arbit/vso-shor.rm'
[00000144] mpeg_system input error: unable to
determine stream type
[00000144] access_file input: closing
`file/:///usr/arbit/vso-shor.rm'

Sorry for the lengthy stuff but am doing it for the
first time so donot know a lot. Kindly help. Thank you
all in advance.
