Ok,

vlc -A dummy works fine...video plays, etc.
vlc -V dummy and my computer insta-crashes.

After seeing it was the audio, I went to Intel and downloaded the newest
SoundMax drivers and *poof* VLC doesn't crash :)

Hmm, I would like to isolate the problem.

Could you try to run vlc from a dos command box ?
Try running:

vlc -A dummy
and
vlc -V dummy

This will disable the audio output in the first case and the video output in
the second case.
