OSX is quite different from OS 9 and previous. At the moment there is 
no version of VLC for pre OSX and considering the amount of work it 
would take to get VLC running on pre OSX, there probably never will be 
unless someone really has too much time on his hands. The main 
developers of VLC for Mac have chosen to focus on a good OSX version 
rather then to have a version for an obsolete platform.
