I use Apple DVD Player 2.7 under MacOS 9.2. It seems to be installed
by default. It's software based, so all you need is a DVD capable
drive, and of course a Mac fast enough to process the data.
Under MacOS X I use VLC because v2.7 won't run under Classic, and
v3.x will not install. It seems to require Apple DVD hardware to be
present, which I don't have. I use an external (Firewire) third-party
drive.
(BTW I'm just another happy VLC user - not a developer)
