[vlc] save to file feature help needed

Hello and compliments first of all for your great software !
Question: I'm trying to use the stream output feature, well I actually need
to save to a file (mpeg2 or divx it's the same) the stream received from a
server but I cant make it.
I get a file which grows in size every second but at the end the file is
always unreadable from Win Media Player 8 (XP Pro SP1 with all codecs
loaded).

Can you give me suggestions about config of preferences about demux, force
or not force codecs, access output modules ?

Do you need the logger output in order to understand better what the error
is ?
