[vlc] Re: VLC 0.5.3 does not start on Mac OS x

You have messed around with your preferences and have chosen a 
different (not the native Mac OS X ) interface.
This particular interface has no MacOSX GUI elements whatsoever, making 
it appear to you as if it has not been launched.

You should be able to fix this by removing your preferences in:
HOME/Library/Preferences/VLC/vlcrc
