Well, everything  depends on what  you want  to do. About  the playback,
something aroud a PII 300 should be  enough for MPEG 2 streams, PIII 500
for MEPG4.

About the server,  to stream files or digital  TV/satellite streams, you
can stream several (4 - 5) channels on a PII 400.

To transcode  a stream in real  time, you would need  something around a
PIV 1.5 GHz.
