[vlc] mp3lame problem when compiling ......

Good day guys.
when i compile ffmpeg with mp3lame and afterwards try
to compile vld i get into errors yet when i compile
ffmpeg without mp3lame and then compile vlc it goes ok
... but the question is do i need mp3lame in order to
be able to encode from pcm to mp3 and stream it?????
