[vlc] Displaying on screen messages from ouside

Hello,

I wonder what are possibilities of sending messages that are displayed on
screen during play of vlc ?

I know that Xosd plugin exists and there is certain video_text experimental
support, but don't know anything more about them ....

I'd like to use this feature to display various messages from home auomation
system while watching video with vlc.
