The last line and only line in the system log is:

lines from kernel startup log:
ad1848/cs4248 codec driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
ad1848: No ISAPnP cards found, trying standard ones...
cs4232: set synthio and synthirq to use the wavefront facilities.

Last CS entry in system log before error:

Sep 12 22:25:59 RHLinux90 kernel: cs4232: set synthio and synthirq to
use the wavefront facilities.

Sep 12 22:37:19 RHLinux90 kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out -
IRQ/DRQ config error?

Steps to reproduce problem -->

1) Boot System
2) Login
3) Launch VideoLAN Client
4) Place DVD in DVD/CD-RW drive
5) Click on Disk icon in VideoLAN Client
6) About ten seconds then VideoLAN Client "view" windows and control
windows close, (i.e., program exits)

At this point I just downloaded the RPM's from videolan.org web site.
Copied all to dir then ran "rpm -U *.rpm", no errors on installing or
launching?

Would building sources local change things?
