[vlc] Remote Control interface

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to test the RC (remote control) module for VLC, but I'm not
exactly sure how. I've seen many posts on the web, where after starting
vlc, a line stating the "remote control interface has been initialized"
is displayed. I've tried the default rpm of VLC 0.5.3 for Redhat 8, and
I've tried building the source of VLC 0.5.3, as well. I've never got
that message, no matter how verbose I make the starting command.

On the VLC User Guide, it states the RC module is "always enabled." I
even checked the source directory, modules/control/rc/, and the object
files are there, so it IS getting built. What am I missing?

Assuming it IS enabled, how do I test it, exactly? I'm using VLC 0.5.3
on Redhat Linux 8. Sorry if these are stupid questions....

Thanks.

Steve
