yup, the splitscreen feeling can be done with #duplicate and 2 VLC clients.  unfortunately, i want the 2 streams in one image.

the mozilla option is good to know about though.  thanks...

But if the client is a Mozilla window with 2 frames, it
can pick up a stream in each frame and have that splitscreen
feeling. You can also direct VLC to start up with duplicating
the stream to 2 listeners if needed.
