[vlc] which vlc to install: 0.6.2 or CVS snapshot?

Hi,

I am still using old vlc 0.5.3. Now I want to upgrade to a more recent 
version. 0.6.2 was released on 14 Aug 2003, i.e. is already nearly half a 
year old. Hence my questions:

Is it better nowadays to install a current CVS snapshot or the released 0.6.2?

Is a new release planned in the near future?
