[vlc] High Definition Streams?

Does VLS/VLC support HD streams?  I have some HD steams that do 
not seem to play (yet an SD stream does).  These are MPEG2 
transport streams.

I cannot play them as files, nor streamed over the network.

They play fine in mplayer (not to start flames, just as a point 
of reference).

Do I need to enable something else to get HD support?
