[vlc] large mpegs -> long "load" time

hi!
I experience long "load" times if I want to open mpegs > 200 mb, and
mpegs > 4.5GB take a really long time (direct from hd or http-streaming
doens't matter)...I just want to play them...once open seeking is no problem
I have installed vlc 0.7.2 (0.7.1 too) on a xp sp1 box...
has anyone similar problems? with ms-mediaplayer it works just fine
(from hd and http-streaming, but mediaplayer has no range support :-( )...
