Well I think you answered your own question here. Faad2 is too slow. 
Maybe you should take this up with the FAAD2 developers and try if they 
know a place where the code can be speeded up. Or you could take a 
faster CPU for your system. Or use other codecs that are more 
appropriate for your embedded system.
