VLC installation progress basically consists in copying its files in its
installation directory. It doesn't put anything in any system directory,
and doesn't create any registery recording, except perhaps file
association on 0.7.2 (even not sure about that).

As a consequence, it is very unlikely that VLC is the cause of your
trouble.
