Rainer,

I have the same kind of trouble on an embedded platform, with VLC svn or 
VLC-0.7.2.  Can I bug you for some questions? Cause I am looking for 
similarities here.

Could you print the version numbers for pthread library? glibc ?
How fast is your CPU ?
How much mem do you have installed ?
Could you type "free" in a shell and print the results here.?
Did you do a native compile?
