I think it's the rpm --force that finally did it.
I had downloaded some of the files that it was complaining about for 
dependencies but to no effect. (don't remember which ones, only that 
they were really really hard to find).
I tried force because it seemed no matter what I did, I was stuck with 
the dependencies.
I really don't know about this stuff so it would probably be better if 
somebody more knowledgeable than I answered you.
