[vlc] vlc as a transcoder

Hi,

I have implemented a video adaptation system using
open source tools such as vlc, dss and mp4live,
however I'm having some problems related to vlc.

The system configuration is as follows: I use mp4live
in computer #1 to capture, encode and transmit MPEG-4
video and AAC audio under rtp to the dss, running in
computer #2. Then, I have the computer #3 which is
running vlc to access the live video and audio,
transcode and send back the modified content to dss.
Finally, all clients are able to access the original
live content or an adapted video/audio version from
the dss.

The problem I've noticed is that when a client access
the modified video/audio version, one of the streams
(video or audio) delays a lot (about 5 minutes) to be
played in the client player. After this delay, since I
don't restart the vlc transcoding task, the delay is
resolved, that is, this delay occurs only in the first
access.

The vlc is started using the telnet interface, as
follows:

> new t1 broadcast enabled

> setup t1 input rtsp://<dss_ip>/main.sdp

> setup t1 output
#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=256,scale=0.5}:rtp{dst=<dss_ip>,port-video=1236,port-audio=1238,ttl=127,sdp=file:///home/manzato/uga.sdp}

> control t1 play

My vlc version is 0.8.2, and I've tested it under
windows and linux, without any success. Could anybody
help me?

Thanks
Marcelo Manzato
