Try adding the switch:
  :dshow-size="720x576"

Subject: [vlc] Pinnacle card composite PAL video input at 320x240 for
default not 720x576

Hi,

I am using a Pinnacle PCTV card, on windows, with a composite PAL video
input.

Everytime I start vlc using the command line:
vlc.exe dshow://
I get a 320x240 video stream, while starting:
vlc.exe dshow:// :dshow-config
I can set the (qualitatively better) video format 720x576 interactively.

How is it possible to launch vlc to use the 720x576 video format
automatically?

thanks,
