[vlc] Problem with DVD playback

I have a problem with playing a DVD with vlc. All my other DVDs are fine, but 
this one seems to have a particular issue.

Static scenes are fine, but moving objects have very pronounced lines through 
them. It looks as if the motion estimation is deinterlacing the fields 
incorrectly.

The DVD is PAL region 2 widescreen, "Getting Any" directed by Takeshi Kitano. 
Can anyone help me with finding the cause of this problem?
