Correct, vlc only supports wmv3 on Windows, and only if Windows has WMP9 or
WMP10 installed.
It's a core system functionality thing. On Windows, MS has this API known
as DMO, which provides hooks to the CODEC. There is no similar
functionality provided by MS for Mac or Linux.

That's a good attempt Mark and thank you...do you mean VLC only supports
WMV3 on Windows but NOT on Mac machines , as I have a Mac and I have windows
Media player 9.0 but....
I dwonloaded WM pplayer 9.0 but that doesn't work and shows me a "Invalid
challenge string: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80041003." error
Anyone have ideas why that is and what is the fix on either the VLC or Wm
player 9.0?
