[vlc] Lack of audio on Mac G5OSX10.3.9

I'm new to your software - and to this method of enquiry, so please 
direct me to the appropriate help repository.

I get no sound - though the picture is good on my G5 Mac OSX 10.3.9  - 
the Crash log messages refer to sound starvation - "audio output is 
starving (285955) playing silence".  This happens on all DVDs
