[vlc] It runs - and it doesn't?

I've got a strange problem.  When logged into my Mac Powerbook G4 (OSX 
3.3.9, 1G RAM, etc.) under my main account (an administrator account), 
VLC doesn't work.  No video ever appears, and the pulldown menu doesn't 
form, except for VLC.  However, if I log in as another user (this one's 
limited permission), VLC works fine.  I have a lot more programs 
installed on my admin account.

I'm new to Mac, but I've been into electronics and computers longer 
than I like to admit.
