[vlc] How to capture a firewire mini dv camera into vlc?

Hi,

Anyone know howto access a mini dv camera through video4linux in real time?

I'm try to access through dvgrab stdout, but this method have a big
delay for me.
1 second is very big for my need.

I'm want to capture the video signal from firewire to transcode into
mpeg4 in real time, and make a video stream into my local network.

Any idea? or sugestion?
