[vlc] vlc 0.8.1, Unichrome Pro, no video

I have a VIA EPIA SP13000 motherboard with Gentoo Linux 2.6.11, XOrg
6.8.2, and vlc 0.8.1.  The SP13000 has the new CN400 north bridge chip
that does MPEG2 decoding.  I have installed the latest Unichrome Pro
driver.  The video works find with MythTV and Mplayer.  However with
vlc I get audio but no video.  I can't find any error messages. 
Anyone have any ideas?
