[vlc] Play 5.1 channels with VLC for Linux

Dear all,

Can VLC for Linux (in any distribution) play 5.1 channels? (DTS, MPEG2
5.1, AAC, WAV, any format).. I found a past post with a patch for playing
VLC with alsa (9/26/05, Sameer Thahir), but I didn't get all the details
about it.
