[vlc] get current position, filename

Greetings,
How might a guy go about getting the current filename and current position
in vlc? I'm looking for something that would be a single command, to be
able to tie it to a button on a remote control.
ie
getCurrentVLCPosition >>notedfiles.txt
getCurrentVLCFilename >>notedfiles.txt

I see the web interface has part of what I'm looking for:
get_time() : Get the current position in the media in seconds.
But I don't see a get_filename type function, and even then I don't know how
I'd squeeze it down into a single command...

Any help is much appreciated

Andy
