[vlc] Zero Byte Output

Whenever I try to transcode and/or re-encapsulate (if that's the right
word) a file using either the wizard or open->stream output->file (and
then "play"ing the file) my resulting file is zero bytes.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there is a bug.
I'm on Windows XP running VLC 0.8.4a.
Thanks for any help.
