[vlc] play dvd disk in loop

Hi;

i want to conduct a measurement on my laptop to compare dvd playback power consumption in vlc comparing to other players. how can i play a dvd in a loop? 

i spent an hour trying to run a single command (in command line) which plays dvd infinite (in loop) but didn't succeed. does any one knows how can i do it in command line:

i tried:  

    vlc dvdnav:///dev/dvd@3 --loop                     plays but stops after one run of chapter #3
    vlc dvdnav:///dev/dvd@3 --repeat                  plays but stops after one run of chapter #3
