[vlc] mpeg4 visual simple stream playback - has anyone gotten it to work?

Hi,
Has anyone successfully done playback of an mpeg4 (part2) visual simple profile level1 stream? 
My SDP for the setup looks like this:
m=video 8890 RTP/AVP 96
a=rtpmap:96 MP4V-ES/90000
a=fmtp:96 profile-level-id=1;config=00000000033500c904042d201109c4000001f400051e000001b00100000
a=control:trackID=2;
a=cliprect:0,0,144,176
m=audio 8888 RTP/AVP 97
a=rtpmap:97 AMR/8000/1

nomatter what I do, vlc (I guess ffmpeg) gives an error about:
"ffmpeg decoder warning: cannot decode one frame (XXXX bytes)
 ffmpeg decoder warning: header damaged
 (mpeg4 at 0x89670f0)

I can play the file with vlc (and ffplay) without problems (except for the lack of sound due to 
missing amr support).

Does anyone know how to get this to work ? I can put the test file I stream online if anyone 
needs it for tests.
