Many thanks Ross, very helpful, I did wondered about the 1988 h263
rfc...wasn't this termed H263 plus ?
So if I create RFC2429 RTP/H263 packets and tel the VLC player end about
the stream using an SDP it should work ok?
I am not too familier with SDP's , so when u say give VLC a 'proper'
SDP, should I hand craft an SDP into a file and give this to VLC - or
can I somehow include this in the RTP/H263 packet? Seem to remember VLC
can take an SDP spec. on the command line ?
Many thanks for your time,
-Chris

Yes - however, one more piece of information: Don't use the payload
format defined by RFC 2190; that has now been deprecated by the IETF,
and we do not support it in VLC. Instead, use RFC 2429 (which defines
the payload format "video/H263-1998").

The LIVE555 libraries - and thus VLC - can handle this payload format,
but only if you give VLC a proper SDP description for the stream. Note
that the "video/H263-1998" payload format must use a dynamic RTP payload
format code, and therefore the SDP description must use a "a=rtpmap:"
line.
