[vlc] mp4s video stream works in ffmpeg but not vlc with ffmpeg

I had gotten ffmpeg to play a linksys camera stream.

I now am trying to use VLC with --sout to make more than one stream 
available.

When I run vlc -vvvvvv http://username:password@CAMIP/img/video.asf 
--sout '#standard{access=http,mux=ogg,dst=myserver:8080}'

it tells me it cannot decode MP4S.

ffmpeg does MP4S (I think) so what is wrong with VLC or what am I 
missing that VLC
is not able to decode the MP4S?????

I installed ffmpeg and nothing else. I am trying to get the minimal 
config for this.

My ffmpeg config was;
./configure --enable-shared --disable-vhook --enable-decoder=g726 
--enable-encoder=g726 --disable-libx264 --enable-pp --disable-libfaac 
--disable-libfaad --enable-gpl --disable-libmp3lame --disable-swscaler 
--extra-cflags="-fPIC"
