I use vlc 0.8.6.a.debian-1 from Debian on an AMD64 platform.
When I run it as a local server for watching DVB-T broadcasting
vlc -I dummy dvb: --dvb-frequency=626000000 --ts-es-id-pid --programs=1,2,3,4,5,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 --sout '#duplicate{dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/ct1},select="program=1",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/ct2},select="program=2",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/ct24},select="program=3",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/ctsport},select="program=4",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/nova},select="program=5",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/cro1},select="program=10",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/cro2},select="program=11",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/cro3},select="program=12",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/cro4},select="program=13",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/croddur},select="program=14",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/croleonardo},select="program=15",dst=std{access=http,mux=ts,url=localhost:8000/croradiocesko},select="program=16"}'
it often (several times a day) starts consuming less or more CPU and a
lot of memory. This happens irregularly and even when no client
connects to the server. The problem is not specific to that particular
vlc version, it happened with older versions and with 0.8.6b too.
You can look at a complete log of one such vlc session run as above with
-vvvv added at http://www.zamazal.org/tmp/vlc-log.bz2 (1.5 MB).
Is it a known problem? Is it possible to do something about it?
Thanks,
Milan Zamazal
