[vlc] Question to the Installation of VLC without any installer

Hallo,

 

I have downloaded the .zip-file of the installation. I also successfully tested the correct working of VLC. To compare the windows self extractor with the zip.-archive, I have installed VLC with the windows self extractor. After that, I have looked for created folders by the installation, so I can see the difference between the self extractor and the .zip-archive. I have found a folder in "C:\documents and settings\%user%\application data\vlc". Now I have some questions, if I use VLC without any further installation (> using the .zip-archive).

-       Is the folder necessary for using all applicability of VLC?

-       Will the folder created, if he is needed?

-       Are there other folders and/or files, which are generated through the windows self extractor?

-       Are there also some registry entries, which are only generated through the self extractor?

 

I hope my questions are comprehensible.
