[vlc] Problem with AVI

Good afternoon
I have an error message coming up "AVI is broken" then it asks if I want it fixed as it may take sometime. I
click yes then nothing happens.
This only happens on one film I have watched other films with no problem is it something I am doing wrong?
I am a novice with computer speak could you answer very simply please. hanks for taking the time.
