Thanks for you suggestions, unfortunately, OpenGL has always been an option, even in the earlier versions, the macosx option has just been removed. And, it trying to fix problems earlier, I've deleted my preferences and started over (which is a major pain considering how much I customize key commands) with no luck. I'll keep trying.
