[vlc] Output to television

Hi, I have a video s cable between my laptop and my tv. This enables me to watch films etc on my TV using windows media player etc. However there are some films which these players cannot play but yours can. My problem is that these films play perfectly fine using VLC on my laptop but when I transfer my screen output ovrt to the TV VLC goes blank (The sound continues). When I transfer output back to my laptop everything is OK. Somewhat annoying as I much prefer to watch things on the TV in the confort of my armchair. Any suggestions (polite ones please!)
