Subject: [vlc] PTS is out of range, dropping buffer
hi,
i use vlc v0.8.6i on a linux embedded system (ep9301 / ARM) with a 2.4
kernel for playing music from a mp3 streaming server. at the beginning
(~ 15-30 minutes) the audio reproduction in general works fine (though
i observe minor interruptions), but at some point it stops
completely (the vlc input thread still receives data from the
streaming server, but no sound audio output. the log (a resume is
attached to this mail) is full of "PTS is out of range (xxx), dropping
buffer" messages.
my guess is that the output thread considers that the buffers are
'expired' (PTS < mdate() + AOUT_MIN_PREPARE_TIME). could it be that
the pool of output buffers is full of 'expired' buffers? maybe the
origin of the problem is that the CPU isn't fast enough to decode
buffers (it's the only computing intensive task it does on the system)
or some bottleneck in the audio driver/hardware (though iirc
communication with the audio device is handled in another thread).
any ideas?
