not really: dvdnav uses dvdread. Older versions of dvdnav had
an embedded version of dvdread; newer ones (such as the one
vlc uses AFAIK) install both dvdnav and dvdread as separate 
libraries

no, not really: dvdnav emulates the whole DVD-VM, thus it should
always work
