[vlc] Play a DVD over LAN via shared drive?

Correct me if I misunderstand -- but doesn't VLC already overcome encryption
to play "local" DVDs?

If so, is there something different about playing a DVD from a shared
network drive that makes it impossible for VLC to still overcome the same
encryption that it can handle from a local drive?
