I am not sure where to find the modules though, or which modules I actually
need. I used
$ sudo apt-get build-dep vlc   to get any necessary libraries. I am not
really sure how that relates to modules and plugins. I guess there is no
need to further underline I am entirely new at this...

I actually do not need anything but the text version of vlc - as long as the
videodisplay works.
