[vlc] PLAYING .WMA FILES ON VLC media player 0.8.6e

Hello,
I successfully downloaded VLC media player 0.8.6e
However, my default player (Media Player Classic v 6.4.9.0) will now no longer play any of the .wma files it always used to.
Get error message "...following pins failed to find connectable filter: ACM WRAPPER ::Output"

Has the installation of VLC usurped (taken over) the codec for wma files even though that codec is shown to be loaded, and was always fully operational, in MPC?

Now I'm forced to change the file association on all my wma files to VLC, and the sound from that player is somewhat distorted and "crackly" at best.

Should I uninstall your player or what?

Thanks for the help.
